The One Mistake We’re Already Making in 2012

What is going to happen in 2012?

Have you found yourself or those around you asking this question lately? It seems harmless enough, but what if I told you that such a question is a massive mistake? And perhaps even dangerous?

Don’t get me wrong – I caught myself asking this after Obama signed off on the NDAA and basically nixed all our personal rights. However I find that as I begin to stumble down the rabbit hole of fear… around our economy and a failing US dollar… around a possible police state… around all the natural disasters that have become commonplace… I (and all of us) must remember one vital thing:

This year is marked with intense transition energy.

And energy is not good or bad. It simply is. What is done with it, where it’s directed and what it does, is up to us.

Transitioning also means that what came before must end, and what is coming must be created and built. Transitions always require destruction. They also require creation. And both require action if we want such destruction to serve us and such creation to reflect what we want.

So this is NOT a year where we can idly ask “What will happen?”

Because now more than ever, what will happen depends precisely on what we do, individually and collectively, right now. Transition energy means massive change, momentum and movement. Things will inevitably change this year, and change fast. How they change and to what end – isn’t a question, it’s a directive. Simply: It’s up to us.

I know a lot of people believe a lot of different things about what 2012 will bring. I have my own beliefs about it too. But in the end, whatever we hope or fear WILL NOT happen in a vacuum. It will be the result of our actions in the past, and especially the actions we take moving forward.

What is happening right now requires our participation.

This means that you are called to massive action this year. I am called to massive action this year. We, as a global tribe, must step forward with intention, direction and purpose, toward the kind of world that we want, and that we must choose.

I think the only way we can lose is to not do anything at all.

So please don’t make the mistake of believing that something has been written into the stars about this year, or that you are powerless.

The only thing I believe has been written into the stars is the marked energy of this time – and that energy directly empowers YOU.

In my opinion, the future is not fixed. The ENERGY of a time is what we can count on, and in the powerful transition energies of 2012, the worst thing we can do is passively watch what comes to pass. Because this is a year for action. This is a year for intention and choice and for stepping up for what we want and what we believe in.

This is a year for each of us individually and collectively to take responsibility for where we are as a culture, a planet and a people up until this point. Because more than ever before, we are in a time of enormous potential and definite change. But the direction of that change is up to us.

If We’re Willing to Step Up and Fight… What Will We Fight For?

This question is a potentially frightening one too. Because the energy of this year also includes the energy of “Us vs. Them.” My friend and colleague Michael Drew refers to it as The Pendulum. After researching the past several thousand years (which will be compellingly revealed in his upcoming book), he noticed that every 40 years, we swing from a “Me” culture to a “We” culture.

We swing from individualism, the worship of the guru, celebration of all that makes each of us unique… to a consciousness of the collective, a desire to stand together for something – and, unfortunately – against something.

At the height of the “We” upswing each 80 years, society begins claiming, “I’m okay… and you’re NOT okay.” There is a collective us, and also a them. These extreme upswings give us the Holocaust, the Witch Trials, the Inquisition… all of it. And we’re heading into another extreme upswing now.

I say all this to say that, yes, I want you to stand up and fight for what you believe in – for a better world, for what you desire and your right to live as you choose.

But that should not turn into “I know how to live… and you don’t. I’m right, you’re wrong. I must destroy you.” Because in the past, what began as a collective movement during times such as these – would always turn into some kind of war or massacre.

So how do we create change, for the better, in a year marked by massive transition and also extremely dangerous us vs. them energy?

2012 Is About YOU. And It’s About LOVE.

I say we do it by rooting our energy and our action within our hearts. This means that what we do and how we participate is about serving the greater good through our own joy, happiness and passion. I’m not talking about collecting nice things – I’m talking about discovering what makes your soul sing and dance and do cartwheels. I’m saying that whenever you face a choice, realize that it will always boil down to the same choice: Will you move toward or because of love or toward/because of fear?

With every choice this year, choose to move toward love.

Because when you’re happy and when you come from a place of love, it’s really hard for anyone to control you. Because control must feed on fear.

Nazi Germany happened because Germany was already broken and suffering after WW1. Hitler had power because the people were downtrodden, scared and looking for someone to blame.

The Inquisition had power because plagues were killing off whole villages and people couldn’t understand why. They were scared, and needed someone to blame.

The pattern is always the same. The difference now? We must turn the tide away from fear and toward love. Don’t Occupy Wall Street. Occupy your HEART.

2012 will reflect ourselves back to us. Who you show up as is how this year will show up for you.

Yes, some believe it will usher in a Golden Age. I hope that is so. But it can’t happen without us. What is golden is what is in you. Use it.

  1. Great insight.
There is a very ancient cycle coming through on top of the 40 year me/we you touched on. There have always been those protecting the divine in all of us to create and now is the time when the foundations are bearing fruit.

Thanks for the work your doing.

This was a pleasure to read, Jaime. I don’t agree with every detail, but I definitely affirm the main sentiment, and I’m looking forward to an excellent year.

    Blessings~

    • Thank you Sarah. One of the things I truly cherish about you and all my readers is that we all tackle life at a higher place. We can’t always agree on everything, but we see the intended spirit and the higher good in each other – and we support THAT. :)

It’s an honor to hear such honesty!
      Jaime

  3. Thank you.

  4. Hi Jaime

I am in the process of culling emails to cut the amount I receive, so I can concentrate on what matters. I was just about to do that to yours (sorry) when I read the start of the email and thought I would click your link. It is a very interesting piece.

My daughter often says “I don’t like people” and that is not because she is anti-social. It’s just that so many people are actually not that nice. We obviously have to look after ourselves first – not least to survive in the current financially difficult times – but this should not be at the expense of others.

There are just protests at the moment in the Arab World by citizens who have been downtrodden for years. When innocent, peaceful protestors get shot one can only feel right is on their side. The only hope is that if the downtrodden achieve power the leaders go forward with love and don’t end up creating a leadership similar to the one they removed, thus creating fear once again.

Anyway back to work and channelling the energy into trying to make some good money this year. Whatever is going on in the world it doesn’t mean you cannot get on and do well. Just focus and concentrate on what you are doing and try not to watch or listen to too much depressing news. Remeber there is plenty of good around but only bad news makes the headlines.

All the best for this year!

    • Chris, thank you for the thoughtful reply. I definitely believe we can and should still participate for the betterment of others.

I just came across and purchased an artist’s book called “Slavery” that showcases the many women, men and children who are still enslaved around the world. When I first spotted the book and began looking through it, I burst out into uncontrollable tears in the middle of the gallery. It hit me that hard.

I want to know I helped save such people before I leave this world… as I know so many of us feel called to serve and save others. And I’ve just learned that first it requires that I’m happy, whole and fueled – because that is NOT an easy journey… and two, that I take consistent action in that direction, beyond just talking about it.

I love being able to share these kind of concepts with all of you because you all consistently get where I’m coming from. I know things can so easily be taken the wrong way… yet all of you always get exactly what I’m saying!

Much love to you and yours,
      Jaime

Jaime, once again very, very insightful! Your unique contribution on the planet is very much appreciated, and your words, as always, are thought provoking!

  6. Right on target, Sister!

  7. Thank you for that post, Jaime. You did a beautiful job of putting into words something that I’ve believed instinctively for a very long time.

As Chris mentioned above, I’m deleting many email subscriptions. Unlike Chris though, I hadn’t considered deleting yours. I know that anytime you send me something, it will be extremely meaningful and insightful.

I love hearing from you, and look forward to what you have to say next. :)

    • Thanks Teresa, glad you enjoy my posts and emails. I hope to write a lot more on the topic of transitions, healing grief, moving forward into the unknown future, etc.

I think now more than ever it’s what we all need. :)

Awesome article, Jaime. I can tell you wrote it from your heart.

I feel a lot of very positive energy surrounding this year. 2012 just “feels” right if that makes any sense.

Every new year is looked to with hope and expectations, but I’m believing that this is one of those years we all make a collective shift for the greater good.

Thanks for writing this one, loved it!

    Frank

Thank you so much for the insightful vision! I am working very hard to introduce Systemic Innovation that embraces all you have said…it’s for us AND them, not just us nor us VS. them.
I know the time is now and I greatly appreciate what you have shared with us. It gives me hope that this journey I have been on for over a decade has the potential to be actualized in 2012…or at least the world is primed to imagine what could be! thanks again for all you do Jaime your words have touched many and your heart embraces us all.

What a wonderful and positive outlook! Fear of the unknown will only breed negativity. Hope and love will see us through anything that comes our way. Thank you Jaime for reminding us of this important point so early into the new year. I wish for you many blessings.

  11. “Where is my attention point?”

What I focus on creates the image I see in my mind and is the narrative I perpetuate in my consciousness consequently being the foundation for the thoughts I think, the words I speak and the actions I take…

Sum pertinent shit you got here!

  12. OCCUPY YOUR HEART! EXCELLENT!

  13. Thanks Jaime
I loved what you wrote – everything is either moved or motivated by love or by fear. That’s what is under everything, if we look far enough. I so agree that we will get out of this year the energy we are contributing!
Thank you for the inspiring message!

  14. As you put it, there are two streams of ‘energy’ flowing through and around us continually, the one negative full of fears, negative thoughts, and distructive celular memories, and the other, (very much narrower unfortunately) full of positive thoughts, actions, respect, pardon, consideration for others and the willingness to check and see the part we have played in causing the present difficulties which we have to face. Thank you Jaime

    Thank you Jamie!
You put it so fantastic!!! and so important to remember not to go into polarity… I put it all on my facebook quoting you hope that’s ok. You just put it so well!!!
    Thank you for everything! :)

  16. Jamie, What a beautiful eloquent post. Strikes right to the heart of my personal belief’s. I always felt there was a reason I have been following you online. Now I see very clearly that you and I think very similar thoughts.
Yes there is so much “transformational” energy entering and changing our lives right now, and since energy cannot be created nor destroyed only changed. I also believe you that we with our choices right or wrong dark or light fear or love will make all the difference in our future, Im with you choose love in all things.

Thank you so much for such a beautiful post.

  17. Excellent post, Jaime. I’m an incredibly positive person, and I struggle with keeping the vibes high…especially while seeing what’s going politically. Thank you for the reminder to focus on what’s important. You rock!

  18. this is beautiful honey, just like you.

    xooxlaura

happy new year. lets play this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Thank you everyone for your wonderful comments. And incredible additional insights!! We have such a kick ass community of people here, I can’t say enough how much I cherish and adore each and every one of you.

We’re going to rock this new year, with lots of love, highest intention, and bucket loads of FUN! :)

  20. As always love your writing James! We all have two sides in our nature; the primordial selfish caveman kicking into survival mode or the altruistic compassionate who gets joy out of helping his fellow man (or woman…not trying to be sexist!).

Its okay to be selfish at times. It’s good to be selfless too. The important part is  your awareness of the duality of your nature. Don’t hurt others around you or and don’t do  selfless acts for selfish reasons (that’s how the Catholic Church was started!)

As far as politics the government can and has violated civil rights before even when the Supreme Court has struck down the legislation. Just look at Korematsu vs. The U.S. for the internment of Japanese Americans. I tend to be reminded of The Matrix when I think of the perceived idea of freedom and the actuality of freedom itself and how true that is. Okay okay, slap me for citing a Ka-NooNoo flick but I digress. What it comes down to is how we react when it becomes a reality.

Change doesn’t come at a predestined date foretold by a dead civilization, it comes when you decide it comes…or when the aliens show up who built the Mayan Empire if you believe George Lucas and Spielberg. But in seriousness, we should never wait for some date to take action, not when we can do it right now.

Well said Jaime! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!

  22. The dollars actually at an all time high against a lot of countries nowadays, it’s why it is currently a hell of a lot harder to pay off my UK credit card with my US earnings than it should be :P
