The dollars actually at an all time high against a lot of countries nowadays, it's why it is currently a hell of a lot harder to pay off my UK credit card with my US earnings than it should be :P

Jaime,

It's with regret that I learn of your abuse in the past and it's good to see that you have healed and that you are growing in many areas of your life :)

Fear of rejection can and will hold back anyone, male or female and many of the things that I have done such as martial arts and public speaking were to overcome those fears. In fact the best way for me to overcome that fear was working on a promotional stand at a fair and having to approach people.

Everyone has intuition as to whether or not someone else is vulnerable or not. I'm not sure if it's my martial arts training or natural ability but I find it very easy to read people's intent, strengths and weaknesses even just walking down the street. I encourage people to do at least some self-defense training more so to show confidence in the first place. So to use everything you have - your looks, the way you dress, the way you walk, speak and look at people will change people's impression of you. Not just avoiding being a victim but owning the space.

Even if a person does make themselves vulnerable to predators in some way, this is no excuse for the predators to behave the way that they do. I am concerned that this partially puts the blame on the victim and I reject that. If anyone blames themselves for being vulnerable then they should forgive themselves for that.

What people seek more than anything else in the world is recognition and validation. Even an enemy might be turned into an ally by recognising their differences, whilst not agreeing with them. Even making friends requires recognition and acknowledgment. If you can give people what they want and lose nothing from yourself then you gain power and control, in the best way possible.

You are awesome Jaime, keep it up xxx

As always love your writing James! We all have two sides in our nature; the primordial selfish caveman kicking into survival mode or the altruistic compassionate who gets joy out of helping his fellow man (or woman...not trying to be sexist!).

Its okay to be selfish at times. It's good to be selfless too. The important part is your awareness of the duality of your nature. Don't hurt others around you or and don't do selfless acts for selfish reasons (that's how the Catholic Church was started!)

As far as politics the government can and has violated civil rights before even when the Supreme Court has struck down the legislation. Just look at Korematsu vs. The U.S. for the internment of Japanese Americans. I tend to be reminded of The Matrix when I think of the perceived idea of freedom and the actuality of freedom itself and how true that is. Okay okay, slap me for citing a Ka-NooNoo flick but I digress. What it comes down to is how we react when it becomes a reality.

Change doesn't come at a predestined date foretold by a dead civilization, it comes when you decide it comes...or when the aliens show up who built the Mayan Empire if you believe George Lucas and Spielberg. But in seriousness, we should never wait for some date to take action, not when we can do it right now.

Thanks Teresa, glad you enjoy my posts and emails. I hope to write a lot more on the topic of transitions, healing grief, moving forward into the unknown future, etc.

I think now more than ever it's what we all need. :)

Excellent post, Jaime. I'm an incredibly positive person, and I struggle with keeping the vibes high...especially while seeing what's going politically. Thank you for the reminder to focus on what's important. You rock!

Jamie, What a beautiful eloquent post. Strikes right to the heart of my personal belief's. I always felt there was a reason I have been following you online. Now I see very clearly that you and I think very similar thoughts.
Yes there is so much "transformational" energy entering and changing our lives right now, and since energy cannot be created nor destroyed only changed. I also believe you that we with our choices right or wrong dark or light fear or love will make all the difference in our future, Im with you choose love in all things.

Thank you so much for such a beautiful post.
