Veggies are yummy too

Take it from a recovering workaholic: when passion strikes, my butt gets really good at staying firmly planted in my seat. {READ: I don’t remember to cook, exercise, sometimes even eat}

So here’s some easy and great tasting foods and recipes (as well as some great organic whole food supplements) I keep in my kitchen to maintain my health, amp my energy and boost productivity for the long haul – and without any nasty side effects!

If you believe it isn’t possible, consider this: I used to need coffee and caffeine supplements to survive launch time when I had to pull all-nighters and 72-hour writing stints at the computer. Now I can endure those grueling launch-time hours without caffeine and its jittery side-effects.

Anything that can survive THAT test wins my vote.

This playful and informative blog article I just stumbled upon would say so…

It’s got some good tips and it’s fun to read. Of course it says staying up and working late isn’t a good idea. Ummmm… it’s 4:30am and I’m still chugging along.

I’m working on it! You should too. Enjoy this article over at 1stWebDesigner.com:

How to Reverse Aging & Have Fun Doing It

Mar 29

How can you live longer, release weight, reverse aging and eradicate illness from your body and your life… all without destroying your passion for food and your love of life?

Some of my favorite superfoods!

This is a question I’ve struggled with for some time. I’ve come to different answers here and there… tried this or that out.

What I’ve learned? There are no easy answers. Each of us brings our own set of challenges to the table. We each focus on different results or needs that we want or have.

However I want to share with you some amazing superfood and superherb tonic and smoothie recipes that have deeply impacted my life. These easy-to-make drinks require nothing but a blender, a way to heat up water (preferably without a microwave), and a few superfoods… and I’ll tell you just where to get them for the best price.

What is a “Superfood” or “Superherb?” Coined by alternative health expert and raw foodist David Wolfe, a superfood is any food that is off-the-charts in nutrition, medicinal properties and health-fortifying benefits compared to 99% of their sister foods. For example, wouldn’t you like to know the three fruits that will deliver the most bang for your buck… the two herbs that, were you to take nothing else ever, would give such a boost to your overall immunity and health, that you’d lack for nothing? There are also superfoods that are highly specific, such as what to take if you want to reverse gray hair, detoxify your liver, or repair the elasticity of your skin (yep, get rid of wrinkles!).

Basically, superfoods ROCK. I can’t tell you everything in this one little post, but I’ll give you a quick primer for the foods, herbs and technologies (and where to get them) that I’ve recently found helpful to me. I’ll continue to post recipes, resources, and discoveries in the future as I come across them.

Stubborness in the Shape of Carrot Cake

Oct 19

Here’s a bit of insight into the wackiness that is me:

Before I went into surgery, I convinced myself that I would be healed and ready to work again in five days’ time (it actually took two weeks).

So I set the goal for myself that on the fifth day I would celebrate my success by baking our family carrot cake from scratch. This is no ordinary cake. It is three layers, involves about a pound of carrot shavings, and we make the icing from scratch as well. But this has been my favorite cake since before I can remember – my mom would make it for me every birthday. So it was the perfect present to gift myself upon the day of my complete recovery…or so I’d thought…

Perhaps if I had fully recovered by day five it would have been fine, but…

It took me all damn day to bake this evil cake!

Pure tenacity and pride baked that stupid cake, because it sure as hell wasn’t made with love. As I mentioned in my previous post, I had so much blood loss that I couldn’t move, walk, or do anything for more than 30 seconds before utterly exhausting myself, getting light headed, and blacking out.
